Google Chrome

Apart from repeating what everyone else is saying... after using it for a few hours, I can say that the Google Chrome browser is pretty good, but is definitely noting new. Running on the Mozilla/Gecko engine and built with the AppleWebToolkit, it is essentially a skinned Safari with a few memory handling features.

Actually... releasing programs that aren't ready, and the aren't as good as competitors with no support, a funny name and only running on Windows...
Sound familiar?

Windows Media Services with IIS circa 1999

Have just been doing some searching on how to install Windows Media Services 9 on IIS on Windows Server...

Well, figures that installing it in 1999 required editing hex, the registry and reading a lovely old TechNet post that I found today.

Silverlight Beta 2 and System.Xml.Linq

I have been working with Silverlight 2 Beta recently, and discovered it has only partial support for the .NET 3.5 framework.

With the Silverlight 2 Beta tools for Visual Studio 2008, the library System.Xml.Linq is not properly implemneted, so you have to install the Silverlight 1.1 tools instead.

This has caused me a 4 hour headache of installing and reinstalling VS 2008, .NET 3.5 and others, so I hope this helps.

Riding the Rails

Hello, it's been a while since I last posted!

Exams, results and a complete site rewrite!

Microplop.com is now riding Rails 2.1, and I'm never looking back. Rails is to Web apps what a knife is to bread.

This site is a very early version of the site - not a nice style, only http authentication and no commenting yet - but this will change.

Expect some big changes soon.
