Just installed a legit version of Vista Business that we get free from the uni, and it has already crashed…Windows Vista new install crash

I’ll report in a about 5 days on how the new OS is performing, it’s major faults, minor annoyances and nicest features; But for now, I’m battling getting sound drivers to work on an HD 7.1 card.

Buy Vista upgrade with Bill Gates’ signature

Amazon are selling an numbered limited edition Ultimate Vista upgrade box with Bill Gates’ signature signed on the front. My God… they must be desperate.

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate UPGRADE Signature Edition [DVD]

He must have a sore wrist after ’signing’ all 20,000 copies; I guess this is why it was so late!

The end of Windows is nigh (for me anyway)

Hee! look at me using big words like nigh! Well okay, not that big I guess.

I have finally decided to scrap Windows forever… kinda.
I’m going to use Open Suse Linux 10.2 for all my files, word processing, browsing and everything.
I will only use MS Win XP for programming, and web development – this is because Reading Uni will still want us to use Visual Studio as our IDE, and not Sun Studio, or anything Unix based (yet).

I’m currently installing it on my home computer that my parents use to try and hoist them away from using Windows, and I am about to install it on my new shiny university computer.

Now… do I want to set-up my computer as a file server at Uni?….

Ipod beating Zune hands down

Over the Christmas period, iTunes on-line music library saw a 1,222% increase in traffic from all the little kiddies (and big ones) across the globe receiving an iPod, charging it, firing up iTunes and loading it up with music. The poor website saw downloads speeds as low as the dial-up era as it struggled to keep up with all the traffic.
The same goes for the Wii, as Nintendo’s Wii Store saw a similar bounce in hits.

However, Microsoft’s Zune didn’t see such a rise in hits, even if it is already released in the US.

The on-line company Hitwise report that the iPod is currently beating the Zune in selling units alone by 30 to 1.

I got an email today which was obviously spam, but i was curious, so i preceeded in click the link it gave me in the body of the email.
The result in Firefox 2.0 was nice and helpful; It tells the user that this site is not to be trusted.

Firefox does detect

…however, this is the result in Internet Explorer 7, apparently with phishing guard was crap. I was able to enter information and even send over a non secure connection, all in a ‘modern’ browser that ‘protects from phishing attacks’.

IE doesn’t detect

Result? IE Baaaad, Firefox Gooood

Bye bye FrontPage…

It has been announce that the crappy FrontPage program that has been bundled with office for an eternity, will not be continued in the latest version,.

Microsoft said: “After nine years of being an award-winning Web authoring tool, FrontPage will be discontinued in late 2006″

It has failed to impress individual website owners, in favour of blogs (like this one ;P ).
