It’s been announced that Apple, will begin to sell all of it’s music from it’s iTunes music library DRM free. They chose to do this, as on average only 3% of music on iPods is encrypted with Apple DRM, and this restriction stop people from legally downloading music. It was clear that DRM is not and will not ever work to curb illegal music downloads.
This is a huge step towards ridding all music of the DRM infestation, and heading towards a future of universal and non-proprietary formats (ehem, Sony).
Hopefully, we’ll see more of the big names do this, to boost their downloads.
