A new law effective from October 2007 will legally require all manufacturers of WiFi equipment to force highly encrypted WPA or even WEP keys to prevent unauthorised piggybacking on to a ignorant, or technically inept users AP.
Some people choose to leave their wireless access point open for all to access, but this is nearly always against the ISP’s terms.
In the UK, piggybacking is not felt as illegal, but as immoral to hog another persons’ connection to the net.
The new ‘n’ grade of wireless technology is due to come with much stronger encryption techniques than the easily crackable WEP keys. Let’s hope that it is eh.
A statement out this week from Vole stated that Hollywood is stopping BluRay and HD-DVD from playing in 32-bit mode on the new Vista. This comes as a shock as MS stated that Vista was going to be completely backward compatable with previous installment of windows.
Also in the new OS is the dredded restriction malarkey, (or DRM) where everything is gonna be digitally signed, and restricted.
‘Speaking in Australia this week, Microsoft Senior Program Manager Steve Riley effectively revealed Windows Media Player 11 will not play HD content from HD DVD or BD sources unless it’s running under a 64-bit version of Vista. According to Riley, 32-bit mode is too open to hacks designed to bypass the optical discs’ copy-protection mechanisms.’ – www.theregister.co.uk
I know one thing’s for sure; Proffessionals and tech-heads simply will not buy the Vista, until BD or HD becomes more accessible and DRM is not included… and this is not going to happen.
Linux here we come!
Looking through mp.com’s stats today, and firefox has a majority lead of browsers that visit the website….
the proof:
Firefox takeover
Had a few prob with spyware recently, this was the state of Windows XP Task Manager if I left it for more than 30 mins…
Find out here why I hate Windows
To rid the problem i ran Avast
did a complete scan which took overnight… (80 + 120 + 160 GB = hell, especially on a 1.5 Athlon)
then installed Peer guardian, which is supposed to be for chroncally paranoid p2p’ers but it suited my purpose well.
It blocked all egress and ingress traffic that was being attempted, so i could tell whether i still had a spyware problem.
Six, yes six scan and rescans of Adaware and the infestation was extinguished. Huzzah! asc
